How does The Palms compare to other hotels in Las Vegas? And whats a great room there thats not crazy expensiv?

How nice is the palms overall for a couple in their 20s to go have a great time in vegas. Are there more fun hotels out there or crazier more extravagant rooms for a fair price (<$400/night). Does it have the best pool or night life? Hows the casino and proximity to the strip? And finally how is the food?
